IRC

There's a #dovecot IRC channel in Freenode IRC network. You may ask questions there, but remember:

The best use of IRC is for questions that can be answered with single sentences. Try to ask such questions, and you're more likely to get an answer.
If your question is a broad or a complex one, it may be better to use mailing list instead. There are a lot more people reading the mailing list than reading the IRC channel. Also it is often easier to read a well written email than it is to read a pageful of IRC messages which may not make much sense.
Some people, and especially Dovecot's author, may not always have time to think about your question, even if he is actively discussing something else in the channel. If you can't seem to get replies, please use the mailing list instead.
IRC is also great for interactive debugging, designing, etc. But again, remember that people don't always have time.
