if you run on linux those ethx:y are deprecated. you can now easily add
ips to a device:

    ip address add 192.168.1.1/24 broadcast 192.168.1.255 dev eth0

for the more insane people:

    for ((i=0; i<255; i++)) ; do
        ip a a 192.168.1.${i}/24 broadcast 192.168.1.255 dev eth0
    done
