Have you looked at the code yet?

 From my own experiences with writing code for Dovecot, I think you'll find Timo 
has done a brilliant job of keeping the code clean, clear, and well organised. 
It rarely takes much effort to work out which area of the code to investigate.

What you're proposing sounds interesting - I can certainly see the benefits of 
it.  Though, have you looked at D-Bus?  Perhaps worth considering.
