0.99 is a really old and unmantained version. You should consider switching to
1.0.
Anyway, if you really need staying with that version, this is a working
config:
protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s
imap_listen = [::]
pop3_listen = [::]
ssl_cert_file = /usr/share/ssl/certs/imapd.pem
ssl_key_file = /usr/share/ssl/certs/imapd.pem
disable_plaintext_auth = no
login_dir = /var/run/dovecot-login
login = imap
login_process_per_connection = yes
login = pop3
first_valid_uid = 100
default_mail_env = maildir:
%h/Maildir:INDEX=/var/dovecot/%u:CONTROL=/var/dovecot/%u
mbox_locks = fcntl
auth = default
auth_mechanisms = plain
auth_userdb = passwd
auth_passdb = pam
auth_user = root
Try fitting it to your client needs, but, again, remember that this is an old
an unsupported version.
Aaaaaaaaaaagur.
