[Dovecot] Imap new messages listing is very slow with big meilbox - why?

I think that's what you should find out first. :) Check what commands
the client sends to Dovecot (e.g. rawlog,
http://dovecot.org/bugreport.html#sniffing). Also you can check with
strace what's taking most of the time:

strace -tt -p <imap process pid>
