That did indeed work on the first iPhone, but the new 3G iPhone won't
let you do that any more.

I finally found a link that advised to just upload the pub cert to an
accessible subdirectory on a web server, then just use the iPhone and
browse to the http://www.example.com/directory/cert.name, and then it
prompts you to install the cert.
