[Dovecot] cannot delete emails in inbox

Hi, thank you for the speedy reply...
original /var/spool/mail permission:

 drwxr-xr-x 3 root   root   12288 Jan  5 14:31 mail

change to:

drwxr-xr-x 3 root   mail   12288 Jan  5 14:31 mail

That didn't help...

then changed to:

drwxrwxr-x 3 root   mail   12288 Jan  5 14:31 mail
It works now.  
Will I have a security issue here? Please advice..
