Yes. Nowadays I keep stable APIs between micro versions (vX.Y.*), but stable ABIs would require to be a lot more careful. So it's not really worth the trouble, since Dovecot logs about the plugin version mismatch anyway and you can just recompile the plugin it to make it work again.
