[Dovecot] Dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files

Thanks for the input Jack.
As I am using debian, the location to edit the ulimit is 
/etc/default/dovecot. There is no effect even after changing this value.
I tried putting the value in the /etc/init.d/dovecot script without success.
