I had similar issue with both my iOS devices and my Computers, especially if they would happen to check at the same time from the same WiFi, as they are wont to do.

I just set

mail_max_userip_connections = 90

and haven't noticed any problems.

 $ grep -i warning /var/log/maillog | grep dovecot   
 $ 

(no Panics or fatals either)
