looks like Dovecot thinks the Unix permissions are OK, but it gets
"Permission denied" nonetheless.

a) Is SELinux blocking the access?

b) Does your filesystem has other ACLs besides the Unix perms, such as
POSIX ACLs, AFS, ... .
