last_login plugin with MySQL

In conf.d/10-master.conf (this is from my config):

service dict {
   unix_listener dict {
     mode = 0660
     user = vmail
     #group =
   }
}

Ok, what were you thinking when you defined this pattern = 
/shared/last-login/$user ?
I personally don't understand this part of the dovecot config at all..
