Changing Password Schemes

Hi Bill,
using PHPMYAdmin:
UPDATE 'mailbox' SET 'password' = SHA2 ('clearpwd',512);
{UPDATE 'the users table' SET 'cryptic password column' = SHA2 ('clear 
text password column',512);}
gives this error:
#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that 
corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use 
near '[`clearpwd`512] FROM `mailbox` WHERE `password` <> SHA2 [ 
`clearpwd` OR 512' at line 1
