Do you have noreplicate used anywhere? It seems this could potentially cause the crash. Yes, noreplicate was set. But removing it (*) doesn't change anything. The stack trace is identical.

• removed default_fields = noreplicate:protected=true in conf.d/auth-system.conf.ext
• removed userdb_noreplicate=false in users
• doveconf | grep norepl # empty
• grep -r norepl /etc/dovecot/ # everything commented out
