As useful as centralized storage of email preferences is (I use it for Mulberry, my IMAP client of choice), I tend to think that such is out of scope in terms of what dovecot should do.
And then there's the whole joy of building Cyrus SASL that goes with building the IMSP/ACAP server. Yuck.
