I can't help with your specific problem, but I do know that having mail stored directly in /home will cause problems - you will need to fix that.
That was a type. It was supposed to be ~ (user's home) or ~/mail.
Right - that's what I meant... you do not want to ever store mail directly in the users home directory (~)...
