Beware that if you (or anybody else reading this) uses /var/mail (as Debian does by default) for INBOX then the it is not automagically detected by Dovecot until mail is actually sent to the account.
Example: Create a new user, and configure the IMAP client. Result (in Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird): Error reading INBOX.
