Maybe it's right? What do the log files say? (somewhere in /var/log/auth.log on the server there sure is a hint on what is happening. At least I'd guess that, since your config tells dovecot to use PAM).
There is some config setting to debug authentication, but it escapes me at the moment (just ask again and I'll look it up).
I cant figure out whats wrong?!? Help would be

Which dovecot version are you using? (a "dpkg -l dovecot" on the server or similar might help).
