Give -v pollsys parameters to truss. It shows what fd it is that's returning something all the time. Looks like in the one Solaris system I have you can get a list of file descriptors by looking at /proc/pid/fd/ directory contents. But I don't know how you could know where the sockets are connected to. I configured dovecot to use straight PAM (unix authentication - still working on the LDAP part), and dovecot-auth plays nice then. Looks like that may be a workable fallback if the builtin won't work.
