That would seem to suggest that you have a broken O/S. You may want to
go with a more modern (i.e. 2.6.x kernel) installation.

The Dovecot docs specifically mention compatibility with Linux kernel 2.2 and later. The host concerned is on a UML installation and 2.4 is currently more reliable for these VM's.
