Shared mailboxes and indexes

I googled a bit to see if I understand it, but no, I haven’t got anything that explains this:

What’s exactly the difference between INDEX and INDEXPVT for shared mailboxes? Why are they pointing to the same folder on Dovecot example (https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/shared_mailboxes/shared_mailbox...
