If you can do without the Calendar functionality of Outlook, Thunderbird rocks! It's calendar plug-in is coming along, but not quite ready for prime time, at least as far as a corporate environment is concerned...

Excellent - will get out there a try it. Don't really use the calendar function in Outlook except for it to remind me when I need to take cover as friends' birthdays come along! ;)

Have started using the process that Magnus recommended and all working really well here.
