Are you sure there are no errors logged? The above messages could be in a different log file than errors. See http://wiki.dovecot.org/Logging

If there really are no errors, it can only mean that the main dovecot process crashed. Then it should have written a core file to base_dir (/var/run/dovecot/). If not, run ulimit -c unlimited before starting dovecot.
