First of all, did you update Pigeonhole along with Dovecot? This kind of weirdness can happen when Pigeonhole was compiled against a different version of Dovecot. You could compile Pigeonhole manually as well to make sure, which also gives you the opportunity to get debug symbols for Pigeonhole as well.
Do you also have your configuration for me (output from
dovecot -n) ?Also, can you issue in GDB after it crashed (as you did
