ENHANCED_IDLE is not an extension to IDLE. It's a courier-specific enhancement to the IDLE command, and it allows several connected clients to receive information about updates to a selected mailbox. Clients don't need to do anything special. They just send the IDLE command as usual, and as soon as there is a change to the folder, all the clients that have selected that folder receive an update.
