Support for per-namespace proxying:
namespace public { prefix = Public/ location = proxy:public.example.org }
There are two choices for this: Dummy IMAP proxying or handling it

Was this feature ever implemented? Is it in the 1.2 alphas?
No.
On a related note, were virtual mailboxes implemented?
Yes, in v1.2.
