I've applied the patch, and I'll see if there's a recurrence.
I've now been running 2.0.beta3 with the above patch for over twice as long as without the patch. Without the patch, I saw 3 occurrences of the Panic. Since installing the patch, there have been none, so I think the patch fixed the problem.
