I also observed that v2.1.17 and v2.2.36 are different. After the [ LIST "" * ] command, The v2.1.17 directory has quotes. The v2.2.36 directory has no quotes.

[* LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "INBOX" ] where ["INBOX" ] Can I add quotes or remove quotes from the configuration file?

That is a negative for both. And also both are RFC compliant. Software application that can't parse those is broken.
