i don't use root for various security reasons. i dont understand what imapsync is good for my backup? my deamon is coming with rsync from an other host.

root is never needed, not even unsecure permissions is needed
i was thinking backup daemon "in general", since the OP talked about file permissions. with imapsync file permissions wouldn't seem to come into play?
