Necessary only if you want the keywords to also not show up in the FLAGS/PERMANENTFLAGS reply.

4. Removing the dovecot.index / dovecot.index.* files

Not necessary (or if you wanted 3, I'm not sure then - might be necessary to drop the keyword list).
