fixed now as my failure to set first_valid_uid to lower value .
Some users have uids of lower than 500

There was not any auth failure or err messages in secure log related to imaps being logged.
But the dovecot.log does have more detailed info:

what does the secure.log say when this happens? Is there a pam auth
failure just before this?
