I had similar question on how to make it working, and it ended up being:
virtual_alias_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual-alias-maps.cf
I have found :
In fact, it was not dovecot but postfix policy fault because of check_policy_service making alias down.
I'm digging on it now.
