Yes, although it might be a bit more difficult with mboxes (I don't remember why - maybe it isn't).

Any Dovecot version will work, but you probably have less problems with newer versions.

     describes how best to set up shared folders under dovecot (and perhaps also
     gives an overview of shared folder usage in IMAP mail clients in general)?
