I already solved the problem myself
I had this:
protocol pop3 { log_path = /var/log/mail.log pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv }
and changed it to
protocol pop3 { pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv }
the log_path is defined outside the pop3 block.
