FWIW
fingerand getpwnam in perl report the correct home directory for this user. Dovecot is using the default pam config.
PAM doesn't matter. Home is looked up from userdb. With mail_debug=yes Dovecot logs at startup the home (although not with pop3 without this patch: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-1.1/rev/b58f72ccdfe3 )
