You could argue that doveconf trying to read a file to which it has no access, could yield a warning in the output along the same lines as invalid configuration lines. I don't know if it does that?

I was testing the new submission service so I added to local.conf:

after restarting dovecot, submission works, mails get relayed. However doveconf -n shows:
protocols = imap pop3 lmtp sieve
This is very confusing.
