Hope, this answers your question. Maybe you should use a recent version of Dovecot (stable is 1.2.9) and not v1.0

indeed, I plan a migration to a newer system and thus Dovecot version soon. I just wanted to be sure it's no configuration failure on my side, so if anyone knows details... :)
