I've tried disabling imaps in the config file and it starts fine so it seems it's the certificate part of the config. If,however, I start it with '/usr/sbin/dovecot -F' or even '/usr/sbin/dovecot' it starts!

So, when doesn't it start? /etc/init.d/dovecot start?

Are you running SELinux enabled?
