I some sense yes, but it does not actually check the load of the backend systems, but only generates hashes depending on the backend host identifier, so that users are almost equally distributed among the backend hosts.

You can show the backend selected by hash and the currently used backend for a user with the following command:

doveadm -i director-instance director status user@domain
