I'm going to answer my own question and say its because dovecot keeps mangling the mboxes. This is a critical bug. I hope that dovecot-1.0 is released soon. We would love to have a proper pop3 and imap daemon that supports mbox format. Is there any speculation whatsoever on a release date for v1.0?

OK, this applies whether or not a user account is set to leave mail on the server or not. There are several things that might happen, depending on who knows what:
- Mail pops fine.
- The "DO NOT DELETE THIS EMAIL" keeps downloading over and over again.
- All emails since the switch to this new test dovecot pop3d will be downloaded over and over again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
