Replication and upgrade

Hi,

I have used Dovecot for about seven years, and I have a two server configuration with replication between them, mostly for redundancy and backup.

I have by chance read that replication is gone with 2.4.0. I use the packages that come with ubuntu, so I feel I have to be careful with upgrading there.

I read also that I can keep the functionality by using a replication plugin.

My question is: do I need to compile dovecot myself to use the plugin, or can I simply install it ?

Is there any guide for people like me who needs to keep replication?
