[Dovecot] (no subject)
Hi all
I have just finished installing / configuring my dovecot IMAP server.
Im seeing something weird happing.
It seems my Winblows Outlook users are experiencing a problem whereby when they delete an email, Outlook puts a line though the email, but the mail does not delete.
Im not sure if this is a an outlook problem or a dovecot IMAP problem.
I cant see anything in the conf file to suggest that it is a IMAP problem.
If anyone has any tips or advice, it would greatfully be appreciated.
Kind Regards Brent Clark

when switching from courier-imap to dovecot all the users here had a similar sounding prob in sylpheed (mail-client)
sylpheed has the option "rebuild imap4-foldertree", and running that solved the prob
so, it looks like a local-imap-cache or -index prob to me

I don't think so.
I've had the same problem myself in the past. I'm using Thunderbird now anyway, so haven't had to deal with it for a while, but I understand it is a client bug/feature/implementation-detail, and nothing to do with the server itself.
Some mail clients can be told to not display mails marked as 'Deleted', but Outlook isn't one of them AFAIK. Eudora is another which can either display or hide the message..
A workaround for some clients is to get them to move a deleted mail to the trash, rather than just marking it as deleted. But it's slower if used over a low speed link :(

This is Outlook problem. Check global options. Something like pugre imap on exit option.

I wouldn't really call it a problem, it is the whole nature of the IMAP specification.

No, this is a "lack of understanding" problem.
Dovecot is marking the message for deletion. Outlook is showing that the message is marked for deleteio.
The deletion doesn't actually occurr until you EXPUNGE the mail.
Some mail clients automagically do this. Some don't. Some have an option. I believe Outlook has an option (but we banned Outlook from my office some years back)
