Hi,

dovecot with mdbox on zfs running fine and robust since one year now. Zfs and mdbox seem to make sense.

What we do for backup currently is stop dovecot, take a snapshot and restart dovecot. That only takes a few seconds to complete. After that we have time to do the backup.

Is that the correct way, or is there a better, preferred way to get the backup done?

Is there a way to freeze dovecot while still keeping the clients happy? Some are thrown off and don't recover (namely outlook, even if it takes a few seconds only). We can live with that, but better would be better.
