Reverting http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-1.2/raw-rev/2cdfcca171d8 solves this problem. Is there a preferred way to fix this issue?

I'm running dovecot version 1.2.13, compiled against uclibc on the Alpine Linux distro, version 1.10.6. This problem started to occur since upgrading to dovecot 1.2.12 from dovecot 1.2.11. No configuration has been changed in between these versions.
