Re: [Dovecot] Converting huge mbox to Dovecot mbox + indexes
My mistake, good point.
I thought that creating the indexes would take a long time, but after a couple of tests, I found that Dovecot is so fast that it beats UW IMAP even while creating the indexes and after that, it is just fast.
Thanks

I'm curious why this is an issue ? Wont dovecot make the indexes on first use of the mbox if it finds no indexes ?

If you use the dovecot converter then indexes will be built during the conversion.

Good, can I use convert-tool to do: mbox -> mbox + indexes
I have not tested the maildir configs yet and I will have to deal with the number of files and their placement.

Thats good to hear ! It will also save you tiny amounts of disk space if you defer indexing ... people who dont long in, or dont access all their folders wont need indexes. I'm a dovecot "newbie" but I didnt have to do any conversions except convert some old "mbx" folders I had from UW ... I used the "mailutil" program from UW to convert from mbx to mbox
