Then something's wrong. Show your doveconf -n output and what error messages you see.

In both cases, we use the same local config file, included from dovecot.conf (I've included both of these too)

The error message is:

Attempting to tweak MAIL.conf to fix this error simply resulted in various states of "broken", so any help untangling this will be greatly appreciated.
