--ssl, not -ssl
damn. I'm tired... anyway, I swear I've RTFM but I didn'n find this switch.
Well, preferred way to start Dovecot is to run it via dovecot master binary, not via inetd. I should write some page about it to wiki I guess..
What's tho switch for debug ? now I've got this: pop3-login: Oct 01 16:49:56 Fatal: SSL initialization failed and some more verbosity would prevent me from bothering you again
The error messages are usually quite good I think. This is one exception, I'll fix it. Anyway, two possibilities:
a) Dovecot wasn't compiled with SSL support at all.
Install prefix ...................... : /usr File offsets ........................ : 64bit Building with SSL support ........... : yes (OpenSSL) Building with IPv6 support .......... : yes Building with pop3 server ........... : yes Building with user database modules . : static passwd passwd-file ldap pgsql mysql (modules) Building with password lookup modules : passwd passwd-file shadow pam ldap pgsql mysql (modules)
b) ssl_disable = yes
it's not disabled...

Well, I'm out of ideas. If you start dovecot simply by running "dovecot", does it give different error messages? It does more sanity checking before even trying to use SSL.
