All,
I am running Dovecot 2.4 on a single server, and I am wondering where I can set it to use the full email address as the login name.
I am running Ubuntu 26.04 and its fully updated. I own the server, and the domain. Let me know what information you need to assist me.
Very Respectfully, Daniel Reinhardt

It depends where you keep your users. I am using on one server sqlite for the usernames and on another mariadb and the username query is in the “<path>/dovecot/conf.d/auth-sql.conf.ext“ and the users are created using postfixadmin.

Hi Daniel,
I had issues too with using a password file, before I used sql database for the user authentication I used pam authentication which authenticates to the system password file, in Ubuntu it should already have the correct dovecot authentication file in /etc/pam.d

Have you tried setting log_debug=category=auth and check logs? It might tell you where the problem lies.

Horst,
I have that set to default, and it doesn't allow email address to be used.
I get the same error as No Authentication Error.

It depends where you keep your users. I am using on one server sqlite for the usernames and on another mariadb and the username query is in the “<path>/dovecot/conf.d/auth-sql.conf.ext“ and the users are created using postfixadmin.

All, I am running Dovecot 2.4 on a single server, and I am wondering where I can set it to use the full email address as the login name. I am running Ubuntu 26.04 and its fully updated. I own the server, and the domain. Let me know what information you need to assist me. Very Respectfully, Daniel Reinhardt Sent with [1]Proton Mail secure email.
