is it possible to use 2 different sets of ssl certificates, for 2 different hostnames ( e.g. pop.domain.com and imap.domain.com ) ?

For pop3/imap you might be able to do that by moving all the ssl_*
settings inside protocol imap/pop3 sections. I haven't tried that
though.

Have you tried using a wildcard certificate? We did this and one cert works for imap.domain.com and pop.domain.com. We purchased a real (not self-signed) cert from a reputable source for under $100.
