[Dovecot] Bug: ThunderBird and dovecot 1rc1
Hello!
It seems to me that correct deletion of message in thunderbird still doesn't work with ThanderBird and dovectot 1rc1. As I've said before messages are not removed phisically from filesystem, just marked for deletetion. Though I'm not sure that this is dovecot bug and not ThunderBird. Anyone to clarify this issue ?

This is not a dovecot bug, nor a Thunderbird bug for that matter. Many mail clients will DELETE a message, but not PURGE the folder until requested.

Precisely. Check out the "CompactFolder" extension for Thunderbird (there are a handful of others as well) to cause a PURGE to happen.

My users have Thunderbird 1.5.0.4 and I don't see this problem. It's true the message files are not deleted immediately, but they are deleted when Thunderbird closes. This seems to be true even if Thunderbird's "Tools>Server Settings>Expunge Inbox on Exit" is not checked.
Using dovecot beta9 and Maildir format.

Have you guys tried changing the settings so that Thunderbird moves deleted items to the Trash instead of just marking them as deletec?
That has the effect for me of doing what I think you guys are looking for...

Reuben I agree, this will help a lot.
Having a message marked as deleted in the Inbox just confuses normal users. If you delete an email, it should go to the trash folder, as in modern GUI standards (Like the trash bin in MacOS, Windows and Linux)

Oh. I'm already doing that, which I guess is why I see different behavior than the original poster. Mark
